Synopsis: Breeds in rangeland, rimrock, and other suitable habitat mostly east of the Cascade crest. Most notable are the records from northern Klamath and southwestern Deschutes Counties.

Relative Detectability: Fairly difficult to detect because it sings only at dawn and dusk, and does not fly during the daytime. Very difficult to confirm nesting because it nests on the ground and is nocturnal.

Challenge: Determine if species still breeds at scattered locations in southwestern Oregon, western Cascades slope, and foothills of Blue and Wallowa Mtns.
